Sunbury Court, Sunbury-on-Thames
From a watercolour by Daphne Clement
Built in 1723 by John Witt, just prior to his marriage, this restored mansion once sat in over a hundred acres that extended to the banks of the Thames and included two islands: one is now residential and the other is a beautiful riverside park. Since 1925 when the Salvation Army bought the derelict buidling, it has become the focal point for the Army activities.... the General is elected here... it has been a place of recreation and relaxation for serviceman in wartime ... young and old gather here and it is a conference centre for all Salvationist activities.
